In September of 2004 Sunshine Dental, PC opened it’s doors in Watertown. Since then, the North Country has been more than receptive and supportive of our practice. We believe in giving back to the community, especially the youth of the community, and do so throughout the year.

National Children’s Dental Health Month Contest 2012

Contest Rules:

All entries should be received no later than Friday, March 2, 2012.

National Children’s Dental Health Contest is open to any student in grade K-5

To ease the task of choosing the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Grand Prize Winners, we ask that each school ONLY submit their top 3 entries in each contest. Therefore each school should mail only 3-6 entries. (Criteria for selection should include educational value, creativity, neatness, etc.)

Coloring Contest Grades K - 3

Students color the provided coloring sheet, (please make as many copies as needed.)

1^st, 2^nd, & 3^rd place winners from each school will receive a $10.00 Gift Certificate, and be placed in the area-wide contest making them eligible for one of the following Grand Prizes:

1^st Place - $100.00 U.S. Savings Bond

2^nd Place - $ 75.00 U.S. Savings Bond

3^rd Place - $ 50.00 U.S. Savings Bond

Essay Contest Grades 4-5

Student must write a short essay 100 – 150 words based on the statement:    "Rock Your Smile!”

1^st, 2^nd, & 3^rd place winners from each school will receive a $10.00 Gift Certificate, and be placed in the area-wide contest making them eligible for one of the following Grand Prizes:

1^st Place - $100.00 U.S. Savings Bond

2^nd Place - $ 75.00 U.S. Savings Bond

3^rd Place - $ 50.00 U.S. Savings Bond

Only the Top Three Entries for Coloring & Essay Contests from each school should be received no later than March 2, 2012, to be eligible for the Grand Prize Awards. Staff from Sunshine Dental will select the three overall area-wide winners in each contest.

When returning your entry’s please check to make sure you have:

·        Enclosed only the top three entry’s for the Coloring Contest, and/or the top three entry’s for the Essay Contest

·        Clearly labeled each entry

·        Completed the School Entrance Form provided (It is important that you return the School Entrance Form completed with a total number of   participants from your school so that we may distribute the appropriate number of Participation Certificates.)

7th Annual Children's Dental Health Month Contest

"Helping Students Celebrate Dental Hygiene!”

Recently close to 250 people gathered for an Awards Ceremony to celebrate the 7^th Annual National Children’s Dental Health Month Essay & Coloring Contest, sponsored by Sunshine Dental, PC, 140 Eastern Boulevard, Watertown. The annual contest continues to grow each and every year, with this year’s contest involving the largest number of students thus far. Over 15 schools, 84 classes and a total of 1,412 students took part in the contest. Dr. Aeklavya Panjali of Sunshine Dental, PC was overwhelmed with the participation for this year’s contest saying, “It’s all about the kids, and this is a lot of kids!” “Getting kids excited about good oral hygiene is what this contest is all about and I am just thrilled to see that we are reaching this many of them.”

The contest is broken into a coloring contest (grades K – 3) and an essay contest (grades 4 & 5). The theme for this year’s contest was "A Healthy Smile? It's Easy To Find! Remember to Brush & Floss Every Day!”

Fifty seven students received Top Honor Awards from within their individual schools, each receiving a Certificate and a $10.00 Borders Gift Card. Of the 57 students, three were chosen from the coloring entries and three from the essay entries to receive the Overall 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd Place Awards. These students each received $100.00, $75.00 and $50.00 U.S. Savings Bonds respectively, in addition to the Borders Gift Cards.

Receiving Overall Awards for the essay contest were;

1^st Place from Starbuck Elementary, Daniel Kiblin

2^nd Place from Bellville-Henderson Elementary, Peyton Bailey

3^rd Place from Immaculate Heart Intermediate School, Jordan Signor.

Receiving Overall Awards for the coloring contest were;

1^st Place from Beaver River Central Elementary, Lauryn Vigeland

2^nd Place from Copenhagen Central Elementary, Halynn Russell

3^rd Place from Lyme Central Elementary, Dominick Sanford

School Winners and Staff Overall Winners

As an added bonus to receiving these awards Dr. Panjali treats the winning students, their teachers, school principals, school nurses, and their families to a pizza party/awards reception, held at the Ramada Inn, Watertown, to celebrate their accomplishments. Dr. Panjali again emphasized that it’s all about the kids. “We started seven years ago with about 10 kids in the waiting room of my office with cookies and punch. Today we have over 50 kids with their families and school representatives enjoying pizza, and really celebrating in a big way, how kids are learning that taking care of their smile is important, but seeing them smile is just as important.”

Each Fall Sunshine Dental also sponsors a “Good Deeds” Contest, celebrating the good that kids so seldom get recognized for. This contest is open to all students in grades K – 12.
